Swiftwater Rescue (NFPA)

Basic Water First Responder:

This a 1 day (8-10) hour course that meets the "competent person" definition for Awareness Level by the NFPA. Because this class enters into in-water self rescue and basic rescue skills it goes beyond the Awareness Level and the AHJ must determine if their personnel may perform in the event of a rescue.

This class is for anyone that works around lakes, ponds or other non-flowing or slow water.

Day 1 is split into class room and on water training. The class portion covers rescue philosophy, drowning and medical considerations, preplanning and size-up, rescue equipment and risk/benefit decision making. The 2nd half of the day is in the water covering shore based reach / throw techniques, self rescue in current, boat based recovery, safe wading rescues and tethered swimmers.

Prerequisites:   None

Required Gear:   Wetsuit or Drysuit, Water Booties, Helmet and USCG approved Type III or V Lifejacket

Tuition:   $115

Dates:   TBA

Standard:   Exceeds NFPA 1670 for Awareness Level (water)
