Rescue Tip of the Month

Gear Storage:

For most of you, winter means the end of the boating season, so hear are some tips to help protect your investments.

Suits, tops, booties and dry gear:

Wash and allow to dry thoroughly before storing. You don't need that nasty river funk to greet you in the spring.

Hardware, i.e pulleys & carabiners:

Clean, dry and oil to prevent corrosion over the winter. Even aluminum hardware can build up oxidation if kept in a damp place.

Soft goods, i.e ropes & webbing:

We wash our ropes and webbing with a little bit of mild detergent in a front loading washer then hang them to air dry before storing. Check the companies own care instructions if you have questions.

Rafts & other inflatables:

We clean and remove any debris from the crevices of our boats and allow them to dry completely. We then wipe them down with 303 (a protection similar to Armor All) to prevent drying and cracking before we roll them for the winter.

NOTE: If you have a boat made from PVC, beaware that mice like to chew this material.

We will continue to post more tips throughout the winter as well as class schedules, so be sure to check in from time to time.

Disclaimer:

Always check with the manufactures recommendations on care and maintenance of your own equipment. The preset list is what we here at IRR has followed and it has brought us years of great service from our gear.

The most important thing is to take care of your gear so it can take care of you.

We hope you had a great year boating and remember, the rivers still flow in the winter; they're just a little lower and slower.
